  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 6 tbsp ice water
  • 5 cups Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice (fresh)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash) + 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie dough by mixing flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until it forms a dough. Divide into two disks and chill.
  2. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon; set aside.
  3. Roll out one disk into a circle and fit it into your pie pan. Fill with apple mixture.
  4. Roll out the second disk, cut into strips, and weave them over the filling.
  5. Brush lattice with egg wash and bake at 425°F (220°C) for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
