  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (plus more for dusting)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 4 slices of bread (brioche or Texas toast recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberries by washing and hulling them. Slice into halves or quarters.
  2. Make the cream cheese filling by blending cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Optionally add vanilla extract or lemon zest.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, eggs, milk, sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches: Spread cream cheese on one slice of bread, top with strawberries, then cover with another slice.
  6. Fry each sandwich in hot oil until golden brown on both sides (about 3-4 minutes). Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.
