  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup whole milk (lukewarm)
  • ¼ cup melted butter

  • 1 cup dried fruit (raisins or currants)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by warming the milk to lukewarm and sprinkling the yeast over it; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Create a well in the dry mixture, adding the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten eggs; stir until shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Gently fold in dried fruit before shaping into balls.
