Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup melted butter (cooled)
- 1 cup cooked crumbled bacon or sausage
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar recommended)
Instructions
- 1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add melted butter and foamy yeast mixture, then stir until combined into a shaggy dough.
- 3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4. Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5. Fill: Roll out risen dough into a rectangle. Evenly spread crumbled bacon or sausage followed by shredded cheese. Roll tightly from one end to another.
- 6. Slice & bake: Cut into about 12 equal pieces, place in greased baking dish, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
